The College of Information Engineering was formerly known as Department of Mathematics, founded in 1981, which was one of the earliest founded departments of the university. Based on the development of the College of Mathematics and Computer Science, it developed into College of Science and Information Engineering in 2010. In accordance with the adaption of the society and economics’ development, the college’s name was changed to College of Information Engineering after the disciplines’ reorganization. The college consists of 2 master degrees with first-class disciplines, 8 majors, namely, “mathematics and applied mathematics”, “information and computer science”, “statistics”, “applied statistics”, “computer science and technology”, “information management and information system”, “Internet of things”, “software engineering”. Among them, the “mathematics and applied mathematics” is the provincial model program and the provincial key discipline; the “statistics” is the state-level characteristic discipline and the provincial key discipline; the “computer science and technology” is the state-level comprehensive reform pilot program and the school-level key discipline. It also governs Department of Mathematics, Department of Statistics, Department of Computer Science and Technology, Advanced Mathematics Education Department, College Computer Education Department. The college undertakes the teaching mission of 2 public courses of the university: Advanced Mathematics and College Computer Application Basis. There are 82 staff in the college, of whom 13 people are professors, 31 are associate professors, 17 Ph.D. and 47 masters, 3 university-level discipline leaders, 3 academic leaders, 9 academic backbone teachers and 4 teaching backbone teachers. The college attaches importance to lab construction. The lab of pattern identification and intelligent system is the provincial key lab, the experiment center of mathematics and statistics modeling teaching is the provincial experimental teaching demonstration center. The college’s specialized reference room has 15,000 professional books, 2700 bound volume journals, precious math series——1600 yellow books are only owned by the universities in Guizhou Province. The college has formed ties in extensive and profound research cooperation with some famous universities such as Fudan University, Nanjing University, Shanghai Jiaotong University as well as over 10 well-known enterprises. During the mathematician Chen Jing’run and Chen Xiru’s lifetime, they worked as the part-time professors in the college, the academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Yang Le, the director of the department of Mathematics Wu Zhijian from University of Alabama and other 20 famous professors and scholars worked as the honorary professors in our college. In recent years the college teachers have hosted or participated in over 70 nation-level, ministry-level and province-level research projects, and have published over 500 papers in important Chinese and international journals, of which 250 have been collected by such authoritative agencies as SCI and EI. Besides, they have obtained 3 nation-level invention patents. The college focuses on an all-round development of its students, and the comprehensive qualities are continually improved. In the recent 30 years, the college had provided nearly 5000 various talents for the society. According to incomplete statistics, among them, there are 7 cadres in the level of department and more than 50 cadres in the level of division. The college students have made outstanding achievements in national competitions including Electronic Design Competition and Mathematical Modeling Competition. They have won 2 National First Prize and 25 Second Prize. It is noteworthy in particular that they won National First Prize consecutively in 2011 and 2013 in the National Undergraduate Electronic Design Competition. Moreover, they made outstanding performance in the Challenge Cup, the Undergraduate Mathematical Contest, the Amway Cup Pan-Pearl River Delta College Students’ Computer Competition, and the Blue Cup Contest of Software and Information Technology. |
