Introduction to the College of Business

History

With the former name Department of Economic & Management, the School of business was founded in 1986. In 1996 it began to recruit undergraduate students majored in Information Management and Information Systems. In July 2004 its name was changed to the School of Economic Management . In December 2009, it was renamed to the School of Business . From 2012 it began to recruit graduate students majored in Chinese minority economics and in 2013 it started to admit foreign students. By August 31, 2014, it has a total number of 1506 students within the School, including 12 postgraduates, 1471 undergraduates, and 23 overseas students from Kazakhstan, Vietnam, Laos and other countries,.

 

Faculty

The faculty consists of 49 full-time teachers, including 8 professors, 22 associate professors; 8 teachers with a doctor’s degree, and 12 studying for their PhD degrees. Most full-time teachers graduated from Beijing university, Tsinghua university, Renmin University of China, Wuhan University, Sun Yat-Sen University, Xi 'an Jiaotong University, Sichuan University, Xiamen university, Chongqing university, foreign economic and trade university, southwest university of finance and economics, amongst others. Some teachers have graduated from foreign universities or obtained research experience, and a few teachers have had work experience from large enterprise management positions. In addition, the school has hired more than ten professors from domestic and foreign famous universities, as well as big business executives or government senior civil servants as visiting professors.

 

Courses & Disciplines

The school has two disciplines of economics and management. It has set up under the characteristics at the provincial level key disciplines, ethnology economics master's degree program has set up a secondary discipline i.e. economics of China's ethnic minorities, and consists of four programs i.e. national economy theory and policy research, national and regional economic development planning, national industrial economy and enterprise management, as well as financial management in national regions and research of investment and financing, with the duration of three years, to be awarded a master's degree in economics.

 

The School of Business has set up four classes of management majors in accounting, business management, e-commerce, marketing, all of four years duration, which are awarded bachelor's degree in management. It has three undergraduate programs i.e. money & finance, economics, and economic & statistics which are awarded a bachelor's degree in economics.

 

Scientific Research

There is a Guizhou National Economic Research Institute within the School, mainly carrying out research in national economic theory and policy, development planning of ethnic and regional economy, ethnic industrial economy and enterprise management, as well as financial management, investment and financing in ethnic areas.  Over the last three years, the School has taken more than ten national and provincial research projects, over 10 unit academic monographs, and published more than 50 high level academic papers .

 

Talent Training

The School adheres to an overall goal of talent cultivation: "thick foundation, broad caliber, high quality and strong skills", highlights locating at grass-roots level, strengthens the practice of teaching and tries to train applied senior staff in specialized talents.
