Introduction of the College of Material Science and Engineering

The college of material science and engineering was founded in September 2016. Under the universities subjects' adaptation background, the department of material science and engineering was extracted from the former college of information engineering, and a separate college was founded.

The college has an appropriate faculty structure, now there are 18 staff, 16 full-time teachers, 11 people with senior tile (2 professors, 1 researcher, 8 vice professors), 68.75% staff in the college are with the senior tile. Among all the teaching and researching staff, there are 13 Ph.D.s (2 Ph.D. students), which accounts for 68.75% teachers.

The college now has two majors, which are "material science and engineering" and "compound materials and engineering" (which had received approval to recruit students in 2017). The professional research direction is steady and specialized, the productive teaching and researching results have been achieved. 24 research projects are rewarded with state-level and provincial awards, more than 60 articles are published, per research projects exceed 2, the total research funds reaches about 2,000,000yuan, and the college won 1 second prize in the second edition of Guizhou High School Scientific Outstanding Research Achievement.

The college owns 2 Guizhou specialized key labs——"hotoelectric information analysis and processing lab" and "green and energy-saving lab". The total value of the instruments which used for students' cultivation and research reaches 15,000,000 yuan.

Since the establishment of the college, the construction of the internship base promotes the international communication and exchange. In 2016, the college has established 2 internship bases——"Guiyang Vocational and Technical College Metalworking co., Ltd", and "Guizhou Sheng Yang Pipe co., Ltd". Through the external cooperation, the transition among industry-university-research was promoted. The college has established relative cooperative intentions with Guizhou Yaguang Electronics Technology Co., Ltd in Jinyang High-tech Park, Guizhou Kaite Materials Co., Ltd and Guizhou An’an Di IT& Management Consulting co., Ltd. (NIIT).

There are 185 students in the college. In 2016, the students gained 1 State-level College Students' Innovative Entrepreneurial Training Plan Project held by the Ministry of Education, and 1 university-level innovative entrepreneurial team (also named fluorescent lights' team), which now have passed the evaluation and operated in the university's center of innovation and entrepreneurship. The college has sent a session of graduates. With the promotion of the lab's construction, the building of college has presents fast-developing momentum, the quality of talents' cultivation has grew to a new high record.
