I. Profile
Research Institute of Guizhou Ethnic Culture and Arts, established by Guizhou Minzu University(GZMU) and Union of Guizhou literature and Arts(affiliated to GZMU), was founded on October, 25th, 2002. The Institute was originally under the leadership of both GZMU and the Union, with Wu Dahua, then the president of GZMU and He Guangyu, then the vice president of the Union as its deans. In 2004, Guizhou Editorial and Advisory Committee(GEAC) enacted its mechanism and personnel formulation by issuingthe Official Reply to the Mechanism of Guizhou Minzu College(GEAC[2004]107thdocument) whereby GZMU has elected Prof. Long Qian , Prof. Li Xinze and Prof. Long Yaohong as the dean of the Institute successively. Currently, the Institute has Prof. Lan Dongxin act as the dean, and Prof. Mu Weiping, the vice dean with assistance of two researchers.
II. Duties.
i. The Institute is responsible to hold high-level forums of Guizhou ethnic culture and arts of certain themes, and publish related collections to introduce Guizhou ethnic culture and arts to the world as well as expand the influence of Guizhou.
ii. The Institute is responsible to host exhibitions, showcasing ethnic folk art, photography works, calligraphy works, ethnic fine art works, films, televisions and art designs; as well as host performances of folk music, folk dance, folk opera and folk theater.
iii. The Institute is responsible to conduct researches in the fields of Guizhou regional culture and ethnicminorityculture, to sponsor researches aiming at promoting and developing the local economy by exploring local cultural resources to offer decision-making basis for the provincial party committee, provincial government and local government at all levels. Besides, it encourages and sponsors literary and artistic creations with Guizhou regional features.
iv. The Institute is responsible to contact art groups and individual artists as well as to organize art activities for the public. Besides, it takes the duty of conducting a general survey and protecting Guizhou ethnic art and culture heritage.
v. The Institute is responsible to promote cultural development and cultural prosperity, make an effort to transfer research findings into social wealth by adopting multiple means of strengthening its cooperation with both Teaching Department and local government.
III. Achievements
Since the founding of the Research Institute of Guizhou Ethnic Culture and Art, all researchers, adhering to its aim and research objects, have been engaged in fruitful researches in their specialized fields. It has undertaken one key national bidding project, three general projects, and five provincial projects of social and scientific funding. Besides, the Institute has published four academic monographs, sixty academic papers, some of which have been fully cited byThe Research of Chinese Ancient and Modern Literature, a key journal of Renmin University of China and extracted byXinhua Digest.Overfifty staff members of the Institute have attended both national and provincial academic conferences. The Institute has been aiming at integrating industry, disciplines and researches, strengthening the coordination with other sections and funding scientific researches in multiple ways. Besides, the Institute has devoted itself to transferring research findings into productivity, encouraging researches of Guizhou ethnic art and craftworks, actively advancing development of the market of Guizhou ethnic art and culture and closely cooperating with Provincial Party Committee Propaganda Department, Provincial Artists Association, Provincial Cultural Department,Provincial People’s Committee, Provincial Department of Small and Medium-size Enterprises, Provincial Department of Tourism, Provincial Department of Broadcasting, Television andProvincial Press and Publications Bureau, Provincial Association of Folk Artists and other related organizations in order to deepen international cultural and academic exchange as well as expand its international influence.
